Hello and happy World Vegan Day! Here at Origani we place a strong emphasis on protecting all our animal friends so we wanted to celebrate with our vegan pals.
This blog will be broken down into a few sections:
- What Is A Vegan Lifestyle?
- How Did World Vegan Day Come To Exist?
- Exploring Our Favourite Vegan Recipes
- How To Design The Perfect Vegan Skincare Routine
- What About Vegan Makeup And Beauty?
- Origani’s Commitment To Our Animal Friends
You can obviously skip past the first section or two if you’re already in your element. We just wanted this information to be useful to everybody (and we want you all to try our delicious meals) so we’ve included a brief explanation!
What Is A Vegan Lifestyle?
To put it simply, someone who practices a vegan lifestyle aims to minimise the harm that their existence does to our animal friends. This includes adopting a diet that does not include animal products of any kind. This extends to avoiding animal products in other aspects of their life wherever possible as well.
If you would like a formal explanation, The Vegan Society defines veganism as "a philosophy and way of living which seeks to exclude—as far as is possible and practicable—all forms of exploitation of, and cruelty to, animals for food, clothing or any other purpose; and by extension, promotes the development and use of animal-free alternatives for the benefit of animals, humans and the environment. In dietary terms it denotes the practice of dispensing with all products derived wholly or partly from animals."
How Did World Vegan Day Come To Exist?
World Vegan Day marks the beginning of World Vegan Month. Born in 1944, the events were established to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the formal beginning of veganism. With the aim of promoting the benefits that being vegan provides both to those who practice veganism, and the world around them, the celebrations have grown for over seven and a half decades.
In the present day, various vegan groups and organisations hold festivals to help educate and support those considering making the switch. These festivals are great in two ways as they also provide a community for those who have already discovered veganism.
Exploring Our Favourite Vegan Recipes
Since quite a few of our team members here at HQ are vegan, this day is especially important to us. We’ve seen the delicious dishes that they whip up and thought that today would be the perfect opportunity to share some of these delights with all of you. Below we’ve listed three of our favourites:

How To Design The Perfect Vegan Skincare Routine
Of course, it wouldn’t be an Origani blog if we didn’t provide you with some tips and tricks for looking after your largest organ - the skin. That’s why today we’ll be looking at how to design the perfect vegan-friendly skincare routine!
Like with any skincare routine, your first step should always be to cleanse.
Beginning your routine with cleansing provides many benefits including:
- Helping remove makeup and the residue it leaves behind
- Giving you a clean base to start your treatments on
- Getting rid of any other nasties that may have found their way onto your face throughout the day or while you were sleeping (dirt, pollution, debris etc.).
Depending on your skin type and concerns, we suggest using either our Dermassure Clear & Calm Toning Cleanser or our Cranberry Face and Body Soap for this step. As a general rule, we would suggest using the Dermassure Cleanser if you have oily, combination or breakout prone skin. While our Cranberry Soap provides a gentle cleanse with moisturising benefits for those who have naturally dry skin.
Your next step will vary depending on your specific skincare goals:
If you’re looking to balance oil and irritation, the Dermassure Clear & Calm Flaxy Balance Serum is perfect for you. This treatment offers oil-free hydration, reduces redness and inflammation and provides superior antioxidant protection thanks to the Red Algae Gel contained within the formula. Like all Dermassure products, the Clear & Calm Flaxy Balance Serum is also perfect for those with oily or breakout prone skin.
If your aim is to brighten or even out your complexion, you’ll want a product that features Vitamin C. Our suggestion for this goal is our Complexion Perfection Ultra Bright Serum. Enhanced with AHA fruit acids, this brightening serum can be used as part of both your morning and evening routines.
Those looking to target and minimise wrinkles can combine our Immortajell Wrinkle Diffusing Cream and our Immortajell Wrinkle Diffusing Eye Cream for a full face treatment. These products mimic the amazing cell regeneration of the Immortal Jellyfish. But don't worry, they don't have any animal products, they're just the perfect Vegan alternative for other wrinkle treatments.
Fun Fact: Your moisturiser shouldn’t just add moisture to your skin, it should also attract it and lock in existing moisture. Our two vegan moisturisers are great at all three items on this checklist. In addition to hydrating your skin, our Dermassure Clear & Calm Matte Comfort Moisturiser provides anti-bacterial, anti-irritant and redness-reducing benefits. And our Ageless By Nature Green Caviar Super Natural Butter is perfect for those looking for a deep moisturising treatment that will help defeat the signs of aging.
For most people, we recommend using a face mask once a week. Not only do they give you a fabulous excuse to relax and do nothing for ten minutes, they also provide great benefits for your skin. We recommend the Dermassure Clear & Calm Pore Refining Mask for looking to reduce the appearance of pores and calm irritated skin. And the Erda Pigmentation Correction Green Apple Clay Mask for those looking to balance out their complexion with the added benefit of toning and refreshing Apple Extract.
Now technically body care isn’t part of most people’s standard skincare routines. But we wanted to make sure we included it just in case you’re hunting suitable vegan alternatives for your current products. Our Summer Lychee Salt Scrub and Pure Tranquility Whipped Body Butter are the perfect spa night body care indulgent treatments. Plus if you’re the type who gets dry hands, our Hand & Nail Perfection Cream is also a wonderful vegan product.
What About Vegan Makeup And Beauty?
Vegan makeup and beauty products have been gaining popularity over recent years and we couldn’t be happier. In fact, the only makeup that we think is better than vegan makeup, is vegan mineral makeup. Mineral makeup is far better for your skin (and the environment) than its traditional counterparts. And it also provides a whole host of benefits that would otherwise be locked away only in your skincare. Apart from our lip balms, our makeup range is entirely mineral and vegan making it a top pick in our books. You don’t just have to take our word for it though, Vogue wrote a whole article about how natural, vegan products are far better for your skin. And Glamour has a great piece outlining what the difference actually is between products labelled vegan, natural, organic and more.
