Why Plants Are More Than Just an Interior Addition

Whether you are a busy city slicker living that apartment lifestyle or the queen of suburbia, you probably already know some of the benefits of adding plants into your life. They are a quick interior fix and genuinely add a sense of brightness and calmness to the day. But plants offer more than just a wonderfully lush addition to your home, they are amazing your overall health and wellbeing.

Today, we delve into some of the reasons you should rush out to your local plant store and pick up a little green friend ASAP!

Origani botanical skincare

First our little purple friend, lavender

Many herbs are full of skin-loving ingredients - one that we love at Origani is Lavender Flower. The extract is made from the fluids of the Lavender flowers and this extract is well known for its antiseptic, anti-inflammatory, cleansing, balancing and soothing properties. As a plus, we know how calming lavender is for the mind!

Try our Lavender Extract infused Erda Soothing and Reviving Night cream for the ultimate nourishing experience with the added benefit of the restful nights’ sleep it induces.

Maintain healthy, glowing skin with hydrating indoor plants

Our greenthumb friends have told us that indoor plants with larger canopies require more water to survive, which in turn, increases moisture in the air, combatting dry, flaky skin. This is particularly helpful in winter, and in apartments where heaters and air conditioning is often blaring. Our favourite large canopied friends include the Elephant’s Ear plant - just make sure you also give it lots of light!

However, that’s just a home tip. You don’t need to put an Elephant’s Ear on your face to keep your skin nourished! Just, try our Ageless by Nature Youth Infusion Cream Complex, and see your skin plump up in just days. Our Cream Complex will boost your skin’s hydration levels wonderfully in the winter days ahead.

Purify the air and your skin, naturally

Plants purify the air in two ways. The first one is through photosynthesis: whereby the plant absorbs carbon dioxide to clean the air. The second way is like this: If you have ever assessed your house plants, you may have noticed that residual dust tends to settle on the plants. This is because houseplants capture dust and particles, which in turn reduces the amount of pollution in the air.

Plants are therefore reducing exposure to indoor toxins - this is particularly important for those that live in the big smoke cities as toxins encourage premature ageing, acne and dullness. Prolonged exposure to toxins means the skin struggles to flush out toxins. For an effective air-purifying plant, try the instafamous Fiddle Leaf Fig or the Mother in Law’s Tongue. Don’t forget to wipe your plants down regularly for the best chance of survival!

To supplement your newly purified air, purify and cleanse your skin with our Erda Activating Thermal Peel Collection

The houseplant we all need

We have all heard about the superpowers of Aloe Vera and its magical soothing properties. Containing bioactive compounds and rich in vitamins A, V, C, D and E, it is a natural moisturiser known for centuries to fight bacteria and improve the appearance of ageing and damaged skin. If it was good enough for Cleopatra, it is good enough for us! The Aloe Vera plant is easily attainable and is a low maintenance plant which requires watering every three or so weeks. The leaf can be cracked open and the gel applied directly to skin as required.

Alternatively for skincare that already harnesses the power of fast absorbing Aloe Vera, try our Erda Deep Wrinkle Treatment to reduce the visibility of fine lines induced by aging.

Botanicals in skincare

There is a reason that the ‘Natural’ skincare category is the fasted growing currently - because it is backed by science! Botanical ingredients are important, but it is equally important to know what not to have in your products!

At Origani our formulations contain certified organic ingredients that have been given the stamp of integrity by independent certified bodies. We do not use any pesticides, synthetic fertilizers or fillers, instead, we stick to botanicals and all the good stuff that we know is...well, good for you, oh and bio-compatible (the skin loves it!)!

If our miracle plants haven’t convinced you, hop onto instagram and check out the #jungalow trend! You will be totally inspired by the beautiful bedrooms and additions of colour, which couple perfectly with our incredible range of Certified Organic botanical skincare products! Pop a plant on your windowsill of your bathroom along with your favourite Origani products. Now that’s a perfect pairing indeed!
